NPD Results For January 2010

The Xbox 360 pulls back ahead of the PS3, but where's Bayonetta? NPD has released the January 2010 retail sales for the game console market, and Microsoft has reasons to breathe a sigh of relief, as does EA. After losing out to the PS3 sales-wise during the December holiday sales season, Microsoft's console has outsold Sony's competitor by more than 50 thousand units. Meanwhile, EA managed two titles in the top 10 with the year's first genuine blockbuster, with 572K copies of Mass Effect 2 sold after a total of 5 days at retail and Army of Two:TFD selling 246K units on the Xbox 360. The most notable title on the list might be THQ and Vigil Game's Darksiders, which cracked the top 10 with 171K sold on Xbox 360, and the most notable absence would have to be SEGA's Bayonetta, which failed to sell enough to make the list.
